10 Weird Drinks Uncommon to Most People

Most people may not venture out to try any type of Weird Drinks that are uncommon to their normal taste, especially in the United States.  Americans tend to like to have coffee or cup of OJ for breakfast, for outdoor events maybe 

a Pepsi, Coke or other carbonated drink and for the kiddos, some cranberry or apple juice.  Most of us tend to stop at that point but let’s venture out to see what weird drinks some people may not find too weird.

PANCAKE DRINK

Do you love to eat pancakes in the morning?  I do.  They’re one of my favorite breakfast foods to eat.  But can you image drinking a pancake?  Well, a liquefied pancake?  I would have never have fathomed such a thing until I came across several articles on the internet stating that there are several places in Japan that sell a pancake drinks in vending machines.  The brand name is Morinaga, but I’m not too sure if it is still around.

EEL SODA

Eel Soda


Believe it or not, people eat Eels.   Just look at the picture on this page of Outdoor Life .  From what I’ve read, eel blood is poisonous to humans, but by cooking them along with aid from our digestive system, it kills the toxic protein.  That along let’s me know eel is a no no for me.  I found an “Eel soda” online that is a yellow liquid combined with the extracts from the head and bones of an eel.  This drink is believed to be an energy booster.

CURRY LEMONADE

I’m really not to familiar with curry used in the food that I eat.  I’ve never had it (ikr) but it is a very popular spicy ingredient used in a number of dishes.  But I am familiar with Lemonade.  Lance loves him some Lemonade.  Now image the two combined together and you get sweet, sour & spicy concoction that any spicy food, lemonade lover would enjoy.

MAMMA CHIA

Momma Chia


MammaChia is a company on a mission to offer high quality organic chia based foods.  I’m more a meat and potatoes type of guy and I don’t deal much with…..Chia.  Before now, i didn’t much know what it was, but chia or Salvia hispanica is a species of flowering plant native to Guatemala and central and southern Mexico.

It’s seeds are rich in antioxidants, protein, Omega 3 ALA, vitamins and minerals, blah blah blah.  Look at this drink.  Ugh, it’s got floaty stuff in it.  Mamma Chia mixes chia seeds and organic fruit juices to make a nutrient rich, healthy, refreshing drink.

BUFFALO WING SODA

Buffalo wings are one of my favorite foods, but buffalo wing soda???  Really??? This is has to be the best thing ever or a Hindenburg level disaster.  Based on a website called candy carrollton, the drink starts off with an orange soda flavor but ends in a spicy, buffalo wingie taste.  Um, i think i’ll just stick with Buffalo Wild Wings instead.

GRASS JELLY DRINK

Grass jelly is a jelly like dessert eaten in the far eastern part of the world.  What is grass jelly exactly?  It is a mild, bitter tasting plant, the platostoma palustre plant, that stalks and leaves are boiled with potassium carbonate for hours with a little starch.  The liquid is then cooled and forms a jelly like consistency.  Click this 👉 Instructables Link  to goto an article on how to make your own Grass Jelly Drink.

ONION JUICE

I love a good juice now and then.  Helps to keep the body fresh and healthy, but one drink that i found online, i’d probably never, ever try:  Onion Juice.  Supposedly, and i’m not a doctor, but onion juice has several health benefits such as ridding the body of excess mucus, lowers the risk of blood clots, improves digestion and a whole other list of gulp, benefits.  I don’t know about you, but it’ll take a strong stomach to get used to this drink.  Don’t cry, Close your eyes.

YAK BUTTER TEA

Yak Butter Tea


Yak butter tea….Just putting the words Yak and butter and tea together let alone sounds rather unappealing.  But Yak butter tea is a traditional Tibetan drink that most nomadic people of the region drink to keep themselves warm where the climate is cold.  Yak butter tea, or Butter tea is also known as po cha.  The drink is traditionally made with tea leaves, brewed with a great deal of salt, then a fat serving of Yak butter and milk curds go into a bowl and the tea is poured on top.  Yakkie Yak, Po Cha’s back.

TARHUN

Tarhun, invented by a Georgian pharmacist named Mitrofan Lagidze, is a Tarragon flavored lemonade soft drink beloved by the people of Russia.  Tarragon is a species of perennial herb and can be used for medicinal and culinary purposes.  Tarhun has a tart taste and retains the characteristic odor of the Tarragon Plant.  Delicious.

SALAD WATER

Salad Water


There is nothing like a good salad.  Crisp lettuce, ripe tomatoes, chopped eggs and a sweet dressing, umm, good stuff.  But what about salad, in a drink?  Sound a bit odd aye?  Well, unfortunately not for the good people at Coca Cola.  Based on some sources that I found online, Coca Cola sold a drink called “Water salad”, a flavored salad drink in Japan.  Supposedly released in 2004, the drink came in different flavors that remind you of….you guessed it, salad.

Popular in South Korea, Lotte Milkis is a fizzy, carbonated soft drink that is combined with milk to create the best of both worlds.  It has a creamy, yogurt like taste to it and is also available in different flavors like orange, strawberry, banana, apple, and mango.

Potato Chip Soda


Do you love potato chips enough that you would drink it in liquid form?  Well a Japanese video game publisher that it would be a great idea.  Apparently, he sought to team up with a soda company to create a potato chip flavored soda so that it would be a prize in a crane game at amusement parks and arcades in Japan.

UNICORN FRAPPUCCINO

Ah, the illustrious Unicorn Frappuccino.  The one drink on the list that I actually “wanted” to try but was too slow and lazy to goto my local Starbucks and buy one.  This flavor/color changing Frap composed of sweet, fruity and sour flavors was all the rave in 2017 as it produced a number of Youtube videos, discussions and knockoffs throughout the year.
