Making easy homemade granola is a simple and rewarding way to provide your family with a nutritious breakfast while avoiding store-bought options that can be loaded with additives. To create this delicious granola, you’ll need a few basic ingredients: a neutral oil like canola or vegetable oil, honey or maple syrup, cinnamon, salt, old-fashioned rolled oats, sliced almonds, and your choice of dried fruits, such as raisins. Start by preheating your oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit and lining a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.

In a large bowl, mix 1/2 cup of oil, 1/2 cup of honey (or a combination of honey and maple syrup, as honey can be pricey), 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Once combined, stir in 3 cups of rolled oats and 1 cup of sliced almonds, ensuring everything is well-coated. Pour the mixture onto your prepared baking sheet and spread it into an even layer. Bake it for 20 minutes, stirring halfway through for even cooking. If you prefer a more golden brown granola, leave it in the oven for a few extra minutes.

Once out of the oven, the granola may appear wet, but it will firm up as it cools. Toss it a couple of times with a spatula, and let it cool for a few minutes. Add dried fruit to the whole batch or keep it separate—perfect for family preferences! My kids like theirs without the fruit, so I enjoy mine with a sprinkle of raisins. You’ll have a chewy, crunchy, customizable granola that leaves store-bought varieties in the dust in a short time. Why settle for anything less when you can make it exactly how you like it at home?
